A pillbox sized solution to a more human centered communication at hospitals
MA project from Designskolen Kolding, 2010.
In collaboration with Kolding Hospital
Pilleæsken is designed as a welcome present to the patients in the hospital waiting room, and offers practical information, news and research, amusing texts, stories and quizzes.
The graduation project is based on a hospital waiting room, a ’no man’s land’ familiar to everyone, and associated by many with indifferent or indeed negative experiences, even though the patients often spend most of their time during treatment in this very room.
But how do you succeed in creating a pleasant and calm experience of the inevitable wait taking place in the waiting room? At Kolding Hospital’s emergency and gynaecology wards, Aude has carried out a number of observations and included the users in the design of a kit for the waiting patients. The idea behind the kit is to improve communication between staff and patients.
In the future, to avoid hospitalisation, the health service will use ambulatory treatment for far more patients, increasing the significance of the waiting room. With her graduation project, Aude wishes to direct attention to the innovation of hospital waiting rooms.?
