Dennis Design Center

Prags Boulevard, København, DK August 2011
By invitation from Metropolis Festival

A neighbourhood, its residents and resources is the starting point of Dennis Design Center.
When the inhabitants of an area can follow the whole process of a project from start to end, the result is a story that clearly links to the final outcome. The story then creates a sense of cohesion and ownership of both the production and the result within a community.

During the two weeks, we updated and mapped out our projects and undertakings daily, here:

The physical presence of Dennis Design Center consists of 3 containers: a workshop, an editorial office and an exhibition space.
Through dialogue and observation the center´s designers and craftsmen are not only responsible for addressing and analyzing a current problem in a given public space but also for identifying and creating a solution.
The editors then greet the visitors in the Design Center with thorough documentation and an in-depth exhibition of the artifacts, urban spaces and various statements created. They also collect various data and documentation which is uploaded daily onto a designated website.

Dennis Design Center’s goal is not only to make the process from idea to realization to utilization as short as possible, but also to communicate this so clear that it creates the desire to design and create one’s own public space seem irresistible. The process from idea to product is transparent and can be followed by all interested. The aim is to make people aware of their surroundings by presenting and giving the tools to engage and contribute, which leads to joint civic responsibility.
